Silicon metal 97, also known as substandard silicon or industrial silicon, is mainly used as an additive for non-ferrous alloys. The production process of 97 metallic silicon is simple and feasible. By using a mixture of charcoal, petroleum coke, and bituminous coal to reduce silicon ore, combined with slag refining, and using directional solidification method to remove various impurities, it meets the requirements of metallurgical grade high-purity silicon, thereby improving the quality of 97 metallic silicon products and suitable for industrial production.

 

 

Silicon metal 97 is a product made by smelting silica and blue charcoal in an electric furnace, with a main component silicon element content of about 98% (in recent years, 99.99% Si content is also included in 97 silicon), and the remaining impurities are iron, aluminum, calcium, etc.

The steps for smelting 97 metallic silicon are:

a. Connect the power supply of the ore furnace, heat up the furnace body, raise the temperature of the ore furnace to 500 degree -700 degree , and add the silicon ore raw material into the ore furnace after crushing, screening, cleaning, and drying;

b. Add the mixed materials to the submerged arc furnace and heat it up to 1600 degree -1900 degree for calcination and melting, resulting in a reduction reaction;

c. After the reduction reaction is completed, slag forming agent is added from the feed end, and the ore furnace is heated to 1200 degree -1400 degree . A chemical reaction occurs for slag refining. After the slag refining is completed, the mixed liquid is allowed to stand, and the silicon liquid floats up and separates from the slag phase;

e. By utilizing the property that the equilibrium segregation coefficient of impurities in the crystallization process of silicon liquid is much less than 1, the directional solidification method is adopted to continuously segregate impurities from the solid-liquid interface into the silicon liquid. After the silicon liquid is fully crystallized, the high impurity concentration part is mechanically removed to obtain 97 metallic silicon.
